5 Myths About Chiropractic Care We Need To Deflate

With chiropractic experts like Dr. Aaron Richardet leading the movement to offer better chiropractic care, it is essential to embrace this medical practice. There are several conflicting views regarding chiropractors and in most cases, they are just myths and misunderstandings.

Top 5 common myths about chiropractic care and chiropractors:

1. There is no scientific evidence to show that chiropractic treatment works

Chiropractic care has a plethora of scientific evidence to show that the treatment is effective. Many types of research and papers have carried out a systematic review of chiropractic treatment for a number of conditions. There is positive evidence that it treats lower back pain, neck pain, and even cervicogenic dizziness.

2. You only have to do a weekend course to be a chiropractor

This is completely incorrect. In order to proclaim yourself as a chiropractor, you have to be registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC). This council requires you to have a degree from an accredited university. The current degree is a Master of Chiropractic care degree of 4(+1) or 5(+1) years. A comparison that is commonly made is the number of hours spent at school/college by a chiropractor & a general physician. Chiropractors spend 4822 hours on an average in their degree, whereas general physician spends 4667 hours.

3. Chiropractic care is not a recognized profession

Chiropractors are regulated by the government by the General Chiropractic Council. It is the most widely used and fastest growing complementary medicine in the world.

4. Chiropractic care is dangerous

Chiropractic treatment has been proven to be one of the most non-invasive and safest therapies. The most widespread apprehension is that neck manipulations can cause a stroke. According to a recent research, a person is just as prone to get a stroke if they see their General Physician as they see a chiropractor. The neck adjustment cannot be blamed for this. When chiropractors and GPs see patients who later have strokes, unfortunately, they won’t be able to sense it because in most cases it is undetectable until it happens.

5. Chiropractors are not "real doctors"

As explained earlier, chiropractors undergo similar training hours & are awarded a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree on completion. So, even though they are not your traditional doctors, they are definitely chiropractic experts.
